What a Great Time We Had at Elevate at Excel in London on 18-19/06/2025!
The Halliwick Association of Swimming Therapy (Halliwick AST) was set up in 1952, by James (‘Mac’) and Phyl McMillan, to develop the teaching of water safety and swimming for disabled people using the Halliwick Concept.
We are the UK’s national association for Halliwick swimming. Clubs, groups, organisations and individuals affiliate to us and we support them in their Halliwick swimming work.
Although the Halliwick Concept was developed with disabled people in mind, it can be applied to anyone, disabled or not, whatever their ability. The Halliwick Concept is all about learning in a safe and relaxed environment so that water activity and swimming can be learnt in simple steps, and at an individual’s own pace, allowing swimmers to progress and overcome any fear of water they might have.
We are a registered charity with the Charity Commission for England and Wales (No. 250008) and we are also affiliated to the International Halliwick Association (the IHA). We run on a voluntary and not-for-profit basis.
Amongst other things, we produce publications to support our members and run courses and training days for those wishing to work with the Halliwick Concept to teach swimming. If you are interested in further information, take a look at these links:
